Marjoram is a perennial herb that thrives in most climates, and it grows wild in the Mediterranean. It is a bittersweet, mild spice, often used interchangeably with oregano.

It was also used to signify luck, and if found growing on graves of loved one's the Greeks thought this meant that the departed had found peace and happiness.
